Join the Team

Dauwels Laboratory is continuously looking for new talent. If you are passionate about cutting-edge machine learning and signal processing research and innovation, motivated, ambitious and driven; we want you to be part of our team.

Why Join

The Dauwels lab focuses on advancing theoretical frameworks in machine learning and signal processing, particularly in recent years through the development of compositional generative models. These models break complex systems into interpretable components, enabling efficient and adaptable solutions. The lab’s work on probabilistic modeling and deep learning contributes to improved data analysis in areas like autonomous decision-making, weather and climate research, and healthcare.

A distinctive aspect of the lab's research is developing machine learning algorithms optimized for hardware like microcontrollers, FPGAs, and neuromorphic processors. Using local update rules, these algorithms enable energy-efficient, scalable real-time computation, bridging the gap between theory and practical deployment in resource-constrained settings.

The lab’s theoretical advancements are closely aligned with practical applications, addressing challenges such as model scalability and interpretability. In weather and climate research, its algorithms improve the accuracy of forecasting models and climate predictions, while in healthcare, the lab’s tools aid in physiological and behavioral analysis, enabling personalized interventions in neurology, psychiatry, and beyond.

By collaborating with industry and government partners, the lab ensures that its research addresses real-world challenges. This feedback loop between theory and practice strengthens the lab’s ability to produce both innovative academic insights and impactful, practical solutions. Several start-ups, e.g., Mindsigns Health and Sapience Automata, have emerged from the lab, turning these advances into tangible applications.
